What needs an account
The tools and the games need no account: open one and start. If you play without an account, a cookie links your progress and streaks to this browser, and they move to your account if you sign in later.
The web apps save your work to a free account, so it is there on any device you sign in on. Notepads also works without one: open a note and start typing, and it stays in your browser until you choose to keep it in an account.
